Preston was opened in 1953 and over the last 50 years it has forged a reputation as one of the finest care facilities for the elderly in the Auckland region. Preston was the dream of Marianne Preston who established a trust in 1938 to provide a safe and loving home for elderly people from all walks of life. As a non-profit organisation it's prime objective is to deliver a care facility that is second to none. Uncompromising in their standards they provide a safe and pleasant environment for residents and patients to enjoy their latter years with comfort, safety, dignity and respect. Residents are provided with total freedom to spend time with family and friends, and take great comfort in the knowledge that professional staff are available to assist when required. They provide residents with a home environment that they can treat as their own, a home that recognises the individual needs and requirements of each resident. Situated in 8.5 acres of park like grounds Preston is a complete provider of health care to the elderly. With two rest homes a dementure care unit and a 78 bed hospital, Preston can accommodate up to 230 residents. During the past years they have implemented a development and refurbishment program in order to update resident facilities.

As intern you would be talking and reading to patients; taking them for walks and playing games with them. You would be under professional supervision and as you become used to the homes rules and regulations as well as the you improve your way with the residents you will be able to work in a very self- responsible way.
