Established in 1994, Big Screen Cinema (BSC) prioritises developing new talents and building international relations. They are now at the forefront of producing new South African cinema and television. BSC have produced over ten shorts including Husk for FilmFour (UK) which was selected for competition at the Cannes International Film Festival 1999. They have recently completed Raya which is part of the Mama Africa series. Raya has recently been released theatrically by Wellspring in the US. Facilitated foreign productions in Southern Africa include the SA leg of feature film Entropy, for Tribeca Productions (USA), the feature was directed by Phil Joanou and stars Stephen Dorff, Bono and U2. In 1995, BSC launched the groundbreaking Cutting Edge Film Series in co-production with the SABC. The films have since travelled to festivals internationally. In 1997 the company also produced the youth drama series In the Mix.
Recently produced documentaries include the award winning The Black, It's My Life, The Cost of Living, The Fight, An Act of Faith (which won an Award at the International Health and Media Awards in New York), One Day on the Path, The Second Wife, Hollyveld Cowboy, Counter Culture and the If Truth Be Told Series. In addition BSC has facilitated and produced documentaries and music specials for numerous international organisations including : TV2-Norway,European Union, Amnesty International, BBC, ZDF, An American Voice, Galicia TV (Spain), NRK Norway. Commercials: Big World Cinema produces commercials for local television and cinema and they have facilitated scores of international commercials and music videos. Most notably they facilitated the Esonic commercial featuring Michael Jackson.

Internships can be offered to students studying in the field of media, television or film production. Depending on your knowledge and skills, you will assist with all aspects of the company.
