Engen Limited, incorporated in the Republic of South Africa, is the holding company with investments in the oil and related industries. The Company was originally listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) as Trek Beleggings Beperk in 1968, allowing investors to participate for the first time in an oil company. It changed its name to Engen Limited in May 1990 following the acquisition of Mobil's refining and marketing business in southern Africa.
The company was de-listed in December 1998 when it became a wholly owned subsidiary of Petrolium National Berhad (Petronas), the Malaysian National Oil Company. Elements of the Engen group trace their origins back to 1897. There is a proud history of dynamic growth in upstream refining, marketing and distribution of petroleum products throughout southern Africa since those early days.
Subsequent to the de-listing, and in support of Engen's Black Economic Empowerment goals, Petronas sold 20% of its shareholding to Worldwide African Investment Holdings (Pty) Limited (Worldwide) late in 1999. Engen Limited listed its upstream business on the JSE during March 1996, and holds a 57.5% interest in its oil and gas exploration and production subsidiary, Energy Africa Limited.
Engen Petroleum Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of Engen Limited and is the operating company in South Africa.

Engen owns the remaining 45% of Afric Oil (Pty) Ltd. Engen is an African oil company committed to meeting the agreed needs of its customers in order to increase its business interests and profit share in Africa.
