Despite the lack of heavy industries in Cape Town, the metal industry is firmly established in Cape Town. This industry consisted mostly of small precision engineering firms supplying short runs or customised products to specialised firms. Protech SA is an engineering company focusing mainly on the design and building of machines for material handling, food processing and bakery equipment. Established in 1963, they are experienced in their field and are currently exporting to several Sub-Saharan countries, as well as Russia, Malaysia and the Philippines.

ProTech is especially interested in creative minded people who can initiate their own ideas and transfer them into a working reality - as many of our student have in the past. Thorsten, a previous student for example, was given total freedom of expression to create and design a pineapple pealing machine from its first CAD draft to its completion. Following his example, depending on the duration of your internship and your qualifications, you would be given similar tasks to initiate and complete.
